About The Position

The Director of Human Resources is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all HR functions that strengthen and enhance the entire employee lifecycle across the organization. This role leads the HR team in the areas of employee relations, workforce development, compliance, HRIS management, and culture-building. The director collaborates closely with leaders who oversee recruiting, compensation, benefits and payroll to ensure alignment and consistency. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on, people-first approach and deep knowledge of the operational and compliance needs unique to the trades industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state labor laws, especially in service-based or skilled trades industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and coaching skills.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP preferred.
  • Experience supporting field teams such as HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of HR strategies that align with organizational goals and support workforce growth in all trade disciplines (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.).
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on organizational structure, employee engagement, and people-related initiatives.
  • Establish consistent HR practices across multiple locations and business departments.
  • Lead employee relations efforts, including investigations, coaching, and conflict resolution with fairness and professionalism.
  • Partner with leaders to design and implement workforce development programs, career pathways, and succession planning.
  • Support leadership training and professional development initiatives to strengthen management capability and employee retention.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., wage and hour laws, OSHA, EEO, FMLA, etc.).
  • Manage internal investigations, employee complaints, and disciplinary processes with fairness and professionalism.
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures to reduce liability and ensure workplace consistency.
  • Implement, manage, and optimize HRIS platforms to ensure accurate employee data and reporting.
  • Track and analyze key HR metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement, retention, employee relations trends) and deliver insights to leadership.
  • Lead employee onboarding and orientation to foster early engagement.
  • Support ongoing employee training in partnership with learning and development functions.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture that supports retention, growth, and leadership development.
