About The Position

The Director of Medical Services will provide leadership and clinical direction to the organization and medical services department, serving as a member of the multi-disciplinary Executive Leadership Team. Will supervise the psychiatric prescribers and nursing staff to ensure high-quality and efficient patient care delivery. Will monitor the overall administration, performance, stability, and growth of the mental health and substance use medication services and care, including patient evaluations, primary care screening and monitoring, prescriptions and refills, and patient satisfaction. Responsible for maintaining a reduced patient caseload, providing high-quality, client-centered care across a full range of outpatient psychiatric medication evaluation and medication management services, including Medication-Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorders (training provided if needed). Patients served are all ages (children, adolescents, adults, older adults) with mental health and/or substance use issues.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing (PMHNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from a Kansas-certified advanced practice program.
  • Hold a valid and unrestricted Kansas license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) from the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
  • Must have a valid and unrestricted DEA license in Kansas.
  • No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare.
  • Hold at least two years’ previous experience prescribing for youth and adults.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership position with progressive responsibilities in employee supervision and management.
  • Must be proficient and detail-oriented in telemedicine, using EHR, and writing e-scripts.
  • Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and Kansas licensing boards with the assistance of Kanza’s credentialing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent relationships with patients, staff, and community partners.
  • Maintain awareness of critical patients at all locations.
  • Work on-site or through tele psych services as needed.
  • Participate in hiring and training new prescribers and nursing staff as needed.
  • Ensure adequate coverage and scheduling.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat youth and adults experiencing behavioral health symptoms; completes crisis risk assessment, assesses capacity for consent to treatment, provides patient education, documents progress toward treatment goals, and conducts discharge planning.
  • Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue medications and treatments to treat behavioral health disorders according to standards of clinical practice.
  • Order laboratory tests according to standards of clinical practice, reviews health assessments completed by nursing staff, obtains past and current medical history, completes a focused physical examination as indicated, and initiates contact with primary care providers according to standards of clinical practice.
  • Be accessible to Kanza care teams for crisis consults as needed.
  • Document and maintain timely, thorough, and accurate treatment records in the EHR independently and using collaborative documentation with the patient present.
  • Record all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations.
  • Submits billing documents in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality following HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Other relevant duties may be reasonably assigned.
