About The Position

The Director of Nursing in Training (DON-IT) is responsible for learning and developing the skills necessary to become a Director of Nursing. The DON-IT will work closely with the current director of nursing, other members of the management team, and members of the regional team to gain experience in all aspects of running a skilled nursing facility. Upon competition of the program, the DON-IT will be placed in a DON role. Placement within the wage range for this position is determined by years of experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
  • Must show ability to speak, read, and write in English, in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Positive attitude toward the elderly.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other health care facility. Three years Long Term Care experience is ideal.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to learn and understand state and federal regulations related to skilled nursing facilities Ability to work flexible hours as needed

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Three years Long Term Care experience is ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the Director of Nursing in Training program and report routinely on the progress to preceptors and Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Assist the DON to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall functions of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing long-term care facilities, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to the residents at all times.
