About The Position

The Director of Occupational Therapy is responsible for clinical oversight of the Occupational Therapy Department, supervising Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians. The role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains departmental standards, and promotes quality patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) – Required
  • Current California Occupational Therapist License – Required
  • Compliance with all additional California Therapy Board and Rehabilitation Services Department qualifications – Required
  • Minimum 3 years of Occupational Therapy experience – Required
  • Strong leadership and team development abilities
  • Expertise in OT clinical standards and best practices
  • Ability to balance administrative duties with direct patient care
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Thorough understanding of California State Practice Act regulations

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor OT staff, COTAs, and Rehabilitation Technicians.
  • Oversee clinical education and competency evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, professional standards, and departmental policies.
  • Maintain and update OT policies, including scope of care, evaluation standards, documentation requirements, and discharge planning protocols.
  • Evaluate and treat patients using evidence-based occupational therapy interventions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans to maximize functional independence.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Educate patients and families on therapy goals and home strategies.
  • Assist with program development initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental planning and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure documentation standards and workflow efficiency.
