Purpose The Director of Operations reports to the AVP of Strategic Priorities and Campaign Director and manages priority projects, improves processes, and provides analysis and strategic operational support for Development strategic initiatives. The Director of Operations coordinates key projects and initiatives across a complex spread of units and teams, requiring strong project management, strategic and operational business acumen.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7+ years of related experience, preferably with 5+ years in operational leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, discretion, professionalism and strategic judgment.
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge).
  • Advanced computer skills and strong content management systems (e.g., Box, SharePoint).
  • Proficiency with project management tools (Smartsheet, Planner, Trello, etc.) and ability to quickly build proficiency with new tools.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and completing projects.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high-level of attention to detail.

  • Experience driving operations for a complex organization.
  • Experience with budget management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support organizational strategy for priority fundraising campaigns or marketing and communications, ensuring day-to-day activities run smoothly and in alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Work closely with key internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Marketing and Communications, Transformational Giving, GIFT Team, Campus Partnerships, Donor Relations, and University Events and Experience to translate strategic goals into operational plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Research and analyze complex information sets, providing clear and concise executive summaries to inform strategy.
  • Lead preparation and follow-up for high-stakes meetings, including donor engagements or strategy sessions.
  • Assists in external relations and other activities as assigned, including logistics for donor meetings, and VIP visits and providing support for development activities.
  • Tracks progress on strategic initiatives and supports budget oversight.
  • Develop and implement systems that improve workflow, communication and organizational efficiency.
  • Assists with donor portfolio management, including tracking next steps for gift conversations, developing high-quality donor-facing materials, and supporting stewardship strategies.
  • Liaises with internal/external stakeholders on behalf of AVP for Strategic Priorities.
  • Provide back-up executive support to AVP, as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
