About The Position

The Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships serves as the Director of Jobs to Move America’s development department advancing organizational goals through strategic direction, team leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. This role is responsible for developing and implementing key initiatives aligned with Jobs to Move America’s mission and strategic plan, while building organizational capacity, supervising staff, and managing stakeholder relationships. This role plays a critical part in shaping impact, developing people, and sustaining strong internal systems and external partnerships. The Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships leads the development and execution of an annual fund development plan that aligns with JMA’s strategic priorities. This position ensures the organization has the resources and systems necessary to sustain and grow its impact. The role involves close collaboration with the executive leadership to set goals and identify appropriate strategies to ensure revenue is diverse and sustainable. This position requires deep knowledge of JMA’s mission, goals, and regional campaigns to develop solutions, anticipate problems, and course-correct when needed.

Requirements

At least 8 years working in non-profit fundraising or related fields
At least 2 years of supervisory experience
Experience in designing and implementing a non-profit fund development plan
Experience with event planning and donor-facing programming
Collaboration: Exchanging information, ideas, and thoughts with others in a manner that is proactive and enhances partnerships
Budgeting: Ability to forecast and track revenue and expenses for all income
Research: Experienced in staying on top of a non-profit organization’s programmatic developments and philanthropy trends and developments
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages to clearly and persuasively communicate JMA’s work to the public and inspire people to support our work
Relationship Building: Ability to build and sustain authentic and productive working relationships with colleagues across race and other group identities, including JMA employees as well as external partners
Flexibility: Be ready to take advantage of unexpected opportunities and adapt quickly as things change
Demonstrated self-awareness, empathy, and social skills in work and interpersonal interactions
Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems and overcome obstacles to get the work done
Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude
Deep understanding of political landscape and dynamics within philanthropy and major social justice donor coalition spaces
Facilitation skills and an ability to unite the team on overall goals, strategic direction and campaign/work plans
Extremely organized and highly detail oriented
Ability to travel at least 15- 20% of the fiscal year to meet with funders, attend Board of Directors meetings, and support with funder events

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of or experience in climate justice, racial equity, labor organizing, or related movements
Proficiency with GoogleSuite and Adobe Acrobat preferred
Proficiency with Salesforce a plus
Knowledge of the political and community landscape within JMA’s campaigns and/or geographic regions

Responsibilities

Work with leadership staff and members of the Board of Directors to identify, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with new and existing national and regional funders
Develop fundraising strategies and multi-year development plans that sustain the organization on an annual basis
Lead and supervise a team of staff across diverse backgrounds and disciplines; set clear goals, provide professional development, and conduct regular evaluations
Coordinate with the Director of Communications on a scheduled basis for cross-team collaboration on projects and messaging
Collaborate with Executive Director, Deputy Executive Directors, and Finance Director to develop the annual organizational budget, and track and monitor income on a monthly basis
Support board relations, engagement, and preparation for Board of Director meetings
Design, implement, and maintain adequate systems and processes to strengthen JMA’s fundraising infrastructure and effectively carry out fund development work, which includes overseeing the organization’s CRM system (Salesforce) and other fundraising software
Identify and address organizational development issues that support health and effectiveness in general and fund development specifically
Manage departmental budgets, ensure effective use of resources, and support fundraising and reporting
Monitor relevant developments in the political, policy, or industry landscape and adapt strategies accordingly
Foster a collaborative, feedback-rich, and equity-centered team culture
Foster an organization-wide culture of philanthropy that engages all staff and board in JMA’s fundraising strategy
Engage in strategic decision-making, short/long-term cross-team planning, and development and implementation of internal policies, staff training, and committee participation
Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures – both timely attention to individual administrative responsibilities as well as oversight to ensure the understanding and compliance of team members
Other duties as assigned
