About The Position

The Township is seeking a collaborative and experienced municipal leader to serve as Director of Planning & Zoning , a senior-level position responsible for guiding community development, regulatory compliance, and long-range land use planning. Reporting directly to the Township Manager, the Director provides strategic oversight of the Planning & Zoning Department and plays a central role in shaping sustainable growth, economic development, and quality of life for residents and businesses. This position manages all departmental operations including budgeting, personnel supervision, policy development, and administration of zoning and building regulations. The Director oversees development review processes, evaluates permits and site plans, enforces zoning and code requirements, and represents the Township before boards, commissions, courts, and regulatory agencies. The role regularly collaborates with the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, staff, developers, residents, and state and federal partners to ensure projects align with Township ordinances and long-term planning goals. The successful candidate is a strong communicator and problem-solver who can balance customer service with consistent enforcement. The role requires expertise in land use planning, zoning administration, ordinance interpretation, and development review, along with the ability to lead staff, manage complex projects, and present recommendations to governing bodies. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, engineering, or a related field (master’s preferred) and 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in planning, zoning, or code enforcement, including supervisory responsibility. Professional credentials such as AICP is preferred.
