Job Summary Position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and support for all inpatient and outpatient therapy services, including strategic planning, monitoring, evaluating, and marketing rehab programs. Directs the delivery of quality patient care services while ensuring maximum operating efficiency and effectiveness. A physical therapist practicing direct access will examine and evaluate a patient's current conditions which may result in identification of movement and mobility dysfunction. A physical therapist practicing direct access will not diagnose an illness or disease. If a medical diagnosis has already been established by a qualified healthcare practitioner, the physical therapist will take it into consideration during the evaluation process.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors degree in a rehab specialty such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or Speech Pathology; Masters preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission, or Current License to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners, or Current license to practice Speech/Language pathology by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology for Texas and Current certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or Certified Recreational Therapist
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Five (5) years of clinical experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors the operating budget.
  • Forecasts expenses, identifies non-capital and capital equipment needs, and completes financial reports as necessary.
  • Hires, evaluates, manages, develops, and counsels staff as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff in an environment of professionalism and respect.
  • Directs all therapy service operations, providing clinical and administrative leadership.
  • Develops and implements plans to ensure comprehensive, timely, and quality patient care services with maximum operating efficiency.
  • Develops goals and objectives to enhance the overall Division/Hospital strategic plan.
  • Evaluates and improves operations on an ongoing basis, utilizing principles of continuous process improvement, involving staff and other departments as appropriate.
  • Monitors and assures staff competency by coordinating staff education and development.
  • Establishes scope of services, policies, and procedures for all rehab areas.
  • Participates in hospital and community activities to promote department and organization.
  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
  • Ensures safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
