About The Position

The Director of Trade Compliance provides strategic leadership for the company’s global trade compliance program within the agricultural chemical manufacturing environment. This role ensures full compliance with U.S. and international import, export, and hazardous materials regulations, including EPA, TSCA, FIFRA, DOT, CBP, BIS, OFAC, and international customs authorities. The Director also oversees key logistics functions that support the safe, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of raw materials and finished products across the global supply chain. This position reports to the SVP, Operations and Supply Chain and manages 2–3 direct reports and 20–25 indirect reports. Requirements

  • 10+ years of trade compliance experience in chemical, ag‑chemical, or hazardous materials industries.
  • Logistics oversight experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with senior executives.
  • Expertise in import/export regulations, chemical programs, and hazmat transportation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence decision‑making.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Chemistry, Regulatory Affairs, or related field strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a global trade compliance program aligned with chemical and agricultural regulations.
  • Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on trade rules, sanctions, and chemical transport regulations.
  • Advise the SVP on regulatory changes, compliance risks, and international trade impacts.
  • Oversee compliance with U.S. and international import/export laws (EAR, CBP, OFAC, foreign customs).
  • Ensure accurate HTS/Schedule B/ECCN classification, valuation, and country‑of‑origin determination.
  • Maintain compliance with EPA, TSCA, FIFRA, GHS, and global chemical inventory requirements.
  • Manage screening processes, records retention, and digital compliance systems.
  • Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Manage voluntary disclosures, regulatory inquiries, and government inspections.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, EH&S, Operations, and Supply Chain to maintain compliance standards.
  • Ensure domestic and international logistics activities comply with DOT, IATA, IMDG, and hazmat shipping regulations.
  • Verify accuracy and compliance of transportation documents (BOLs, SDS, DG declarations, customs documents).
  • Manage relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, trucking, ocean, and rail carriers.
  • Ensure partners follow regulatory requirements and safe handling procedures for agricultural chemicals.
  • Support freight optimization, routing improvements, and cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Assist with duty‑savings programs (drawback, FTAs, FTZ strategies).
  • Contribute to logistics budgeting, KPI development, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Deliver training on trade compliance, hazmat transport, and import/export documentation.
  • Communicate regulatory updates and risk mitigation strategies to leadership and plant teams.
  • Serve as primary contact for EPA, DOT, CBP, BIS, USDA, FDA, and international customs authorities.
  • Lead audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory interactions.
  • Manage the Customer Service team.
  • Ensure timely, accurate shipment execution.
  • Model and ensure excellent communication with customers.
