About The Position

Manages the Institution's payroll systems, including establishing payroll schedules. Ensures compliance of various statutes and governmental directives concerning taxes and employee and institutional records. Responsibilities Accountable for the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll transactions. Responsible for accurate reporting and transmitting of deductions and other payments to state & federal agencies and third party vendors. Ensures timely production of employees' payroll checks. Maintains payroll audit records. Develops and maintains Payroll policies and procedures to assure compliance with state, federal and Institutional policies/procedures. Develops and implements reporting procedures and internal controls, ensuring the accuracy of payroll-related data. Creates and implements innovative solutions to meet operational needs and to improve accuracy, timeliness and efficiencies in the payroll processes. Directs daily, monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll processes to ensure deadlines and goals are met. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in successfully building teams, managing staff, and achieving work plan goals, priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills required, including the ability to navigate change management within an organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal wage laws, state/local tax requirements, and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting related to payroll processing; understanding the process from beginning to end.
  • Advanced Excel skills, strong database knowledge and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to set standards, measure results and coach teams to high performance.
