About The Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Public Affairs and Community Engagement, the Director advances the department’s commitment to Tri-County Millage Services and engagement through strategic planning, reporting, programming, and community engagement to ensure that services are delivered effectively, equitably, and in alignment with the museum’s mission and strategic goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, business or non-profit administration, or other related field required.
Eight (8) years of progressive experience in public affairs or community engagement required.
Five (5) years of experience leading teams, with three (3) years of direct supervisory experience required.
Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to plan and execute goals and objectives.
Must possess leadership skills and the ability to lead a diverse team to meet strategic goals supporting the museum strategy and vision.
Demonstrated research and analysis skills to identify critical information and complete projects and goals.
Demonstrated ability to be an engaged listener with the ability to build consensus within the museum and with diverse stakeholders externally.
Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience.
Demonstrated ability to share complex information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally to diverse audiences through talking or writing.
Demonstrated experience with budget management including budget development and stewardship of resources and demonstrated fiscal responsibility to stay within budget.
Demonstrated ability to make creative, effective, and timely decisions aligned with organizational mission, vision, values, and strategic direction considering risk and long-term impacts.
Must be able to successfully manage conflict, experience with mediation preferred.
Demonstrated ability to recognize, assess, and limit liabilities and risk.
Must possess a demonstrated understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices including maintenance and protection of confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities/projects, and meet deadlines, as well as strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events.
Must be proficient in latest version of Office 365.
Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
Must be able to establish and maintain professional,productive,and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

Responsibilities

Manage the department, determining priorities and goals, scheduling,and annual budget ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum's strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget.
Recruit, mentor, develop and successfully manage a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department.
Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting,feedback,and development.
Collaborate cross-departmentally to develop and implement program plans aligned with Tri-County service agreements.
Oversee and continuously improve internal tracking systems for all service agreement activities; monitor progress toward year-end goalstoensure timely compliance.
ManageService Agreementreporting and review process with external auditing firm.
Develop and implement community engagement strategies that support community group tours, outreach initiatives, and assigned programslikeInside|Outand senior group program.
Identify and cultivatenewcommunity engagement opportunities; build and sustain strong relationships across the museum and throughout Tri-County communities.
Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations forTri-CountyArt Institute Authorities, County Commissions, public stakeholders, and internal leadership.
Represent the museum at external stakeholder meetings and provide on-site support as needed.
Ensure the maintenance and development ofpolicies and procedures for public affairs and community engagement.
Oversee and coordinate VIP museum visits, events, and tours.
Foster, promote, and support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) through the DIA values, active listening, embracingdifference, and engaging with empathy to promote a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
