About The Position

ICDT! is a youth-focused performing arts center dedicated to creating inclusive, high-quality theatre experiences for young performers and our community. We value collaboration, creativity, and hands-on learning, and we strive to create a safe, supportive environment both onstage and behind the scenes. Our Youth Theatre Company is seeking a supportive, energetic, and organized Director’s Assistant for our Kids Program. This part-time position assists the Director in guiding young performers through the rehearsal and performance process, helping to create a positive, structured, and confidence-building theatre experience. The Director’s Assistant plays a key role in reinforcing direction, supporting classroom management, and ensuring rehearsals run smoothly for elementary-aged students. Kids productions are casts of approximately 25 students ages 7-11.

Requirements

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children.
  • Background in theatre, performing arts, or arts education.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and take direction.
  • Patient, energetic, and dependable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience assisting with youth theatre productions.
  • Experience in classroom, camp, or arts program settings.
  • Basic understanding of staging, blocking, and rehearsal processes.
  • The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, nurturing, and highly organized. They enjoy working closely with young performers, bring steady support to the rehearsal room, and help create a joyful, structured environment where children feel confident and excited to perform.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director during rehearsals by reinforcing blocking, choreography, music, and staging.
  • Help manage transitions between activities to maintain focus and engagement.
  • Support small-group rehearsals as needed.
  • Take basic blocking and rehearsal notes.
  • Help distribute scripts and rehearsal materials.
  • Model respectful, enthusiastic, and professional behavior.
  • Help maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive rehearsal environment.
  • Encourage participation and positive ensemble behavior.
  • Provide gentle redirection and age-appropriate behavioral support.
  • Assist students with memorization, stage directions, and performance readiness.
  • Assist with organizing props, costumes, and simple set pieces.
  • Support technical rehearsals and performances as assigned.
  • Coordinate backstage operations during technical rehearsals and performances.
  • Help supervise backstage areas during performances.
  • Ensure students are prepared and in place for entrances.
  • Work closely with the Director and production team to support artistic goals.
  • Communicate student needs or concerns to program leadership.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and basic documentation.
