About The Position

The role is responsible for establishing priorities, focus and operational standards for Environmental, Health and Safety (or EHS), including loss prevention/control activities. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director will serve as the corporate leader in the oversight, implementation and management of all programs, policies, communication efforts, reporting, administration, and accident prevention in accordance with all internal company policies and guidelines, and all applicable regulatory standards in the states/countries where we operate. Responsible for developing guidance documents and tools to improve the business and mentor existing sites as well as in the generation of new business.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, health physics, engineering or related subject is required.
  • Minimum of 6 - 8 years of experience at the Director level or above in Safety and/or Risk Management, including experience managing a staff of 3 or more technical experts.
  • Experience working directly with OSHA and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agencies, including but not limited to: 29 CFR 1910/1926, Tier II, SARA Title III, FMCSA (DOT), Hazardous Materials and Waste regulations (IMDG, IATA, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced business qualification (i.e. MBA) may be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Professional Safety/Risk Certifications preferred, but not required.
  • A passport is not required, but recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing, promoting, and implementing a proactive, positive safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, training and maintenance of all policies, procedures, and programs in place to maintain compliance, reduce associate injury, minimize company exposure/risk, and ensure compliance with the Kenco EHS management system, as well as applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Track and evaluate facility safety trends and leading risk indicators, and collaborate with company executives, site leadership, and risk management to develop and implement corrective measures and provide expertise in the inspection, analysis, audit, and investigation of our safety practices.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction to site leadership, providing updates on all corporate EHS policies, procedures, programs, and metrics.
  • Builds competent “Safety Champions/Advocates” at facility sites through communicating corporate procedures, coaching, training, and follow up on issues related to EHS.
  • Analyze the company’s critical EHS requirements, identifying deficiencies and opportunities, and developing innovative and strategic initiatives/solutions to ensure compliance and improvement.
  • Assume a leadership role in accident investigations and facilitate communication of accident investigation findings to all levels.
  • Review all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure all required documents are forwarded to the appropriate governmental agencies, as well as internal Risk Management colleagues.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and oversight of EHS metrics/databases to ensure accurate and timely information and data are communicated.
  • Provide leadership oversight (direct and indirect) to the EHS team.
  • Develop, strengthen, and sustain productive and collaborative working relationships with all levels of the organization in an effort to promote proactive use of the EHS organization.
