Your Opportunity We are seeking a Distinguished Engineer to lead the design and architecture of next-generation Replen Order Management Platform. This role demands a focus on scalability, robustness, and security, while addressing diverse requirements from internal and external stakeholders. As part of a global team spread across Bentonville and Bangalore, your designs and solutions will significantly impact the day-to-day operations of our platform team. You’ll tackle complex business problems spanning large user bases, and vast datasets.

Requirements

  • B.Tech / B.E / M.Tech / M.S in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience designing and developing highly scalable distributed applications and platforms, especially multi-tenant SaaS products.
  • Proven experience as an architect for large engineering teams (50+ engineers).
  • Deep domain expertise in supply chain/replenishment/core retail.
  • Demonstrated leadership in AI initiatives—examples of leading PoCs or implementations.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using DevOps best practices.
  • Strong fundamentals in computer science: data structures, algorithms, design patterns.
  • Ability to manage tech debt and modernization efforts, balancing short-term and long-term goals.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Java, SPARK, Golang.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices and RESTful web services using Java/NodeJS (SpringBoot, Dropwizard, etc.).
  • Knowledge of messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Expertise in cloud-native and microservice architectures, including container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multitask and thrive in ambiguous situations.
  • Proven ownership of cloud-based projects with high reliability (99.99% uptime).
  • Strong development skills for prototyping technical solutions.
  • Passion for driving change and adapting quickly to emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—negotiation, facilitation, and influence.
  • Experience mentoring Principal Engineers and being a respected technical leader.
  • Focus on reusability, frameworks, and configuration tools for faster development.
  • Active contributor to open-source projects.
  • Practitioner of Agile (Scrum) methodology.

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, implementation, and documentation efforts.
  • Be a thought leader in the team’s Agentic AI initiatives.
  • Build, test, and deploy cutting-edge solutions at scale, impacting Walmart associates and customers across international markets.
  • Collaborate with Walmart engineering teams globally to share expertise and contribute to the tech community.
  • Partner with Product Management and Business teams to set priorities and deliver impactful products—comfortable with tough negotiations.
  • Apply technical skills to design and build enhanced processes and solutions supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Work closely with other architects, tech fellows and cross-functional teams, adhering to established architectural guidelines and delivery standards (Quality, Cost & Delivery).
  • Translate goals for Operational and Engineering Excellence into technical milestones.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define the product roadmap.
  • Participate in hiring and team building to enable high-performing agile teams.
  • Engage with business owners and technical teams across geographies to gather requirements and define scalable, robust architecture.
  • Create high-level and low-level designs, lead technical discussions, and drive decisions.
  • Establish and guide teams on quality standards, best practices, and non-functional requirements.
  • Implement cutting-edge models and algorithms on massive datasets.
  • Contribute to and leverage open-source technologies for global impact.
  • Represent the team in internal and external forums.
  • Drive intellectual property initiatives—experience with patents/publications is a plus.
