About The Position

This is a DOT safety-sensitive position. Any applicant transferring into this department from a non-safety-sensitive position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis (on-call coverage).

Requirements

• Graduate of high school, trade school or equivalent.
• Able to read, write and speak English effectively.
• Have Connecticut MVD and must obtain a CDL-A driver’s license within six (6) months of hire with a good driving record.
• Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and sufficient amount of strength and ability to perform all duties of the classification.
• Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must show aptitude in the safe and proper operation of a backhoe or other earth moving equipment and willingness to learn to operate this equipment.
• Must be willing and able to successfully complete company sponsored training programs in the Operator Qualification program within the two-year progression period.

Responsibilities

• Assists in laying and grading of mains and services, installation of leak clamps and other Distribution fittings.
• Operates pneumatic paving breakers, jackhammers, tampers and other tools.
• Drives truck as required.
• Helps keep trucks and other equipment clean and orderly.
• Upon completion of training, operate backhoe and other earth moving equipment in conjunction with CNG Operations.
• Perform fueling, oiling and greasing of earth moving equipment.
• Perform other related work as required.
• Perform the above in accordance with safety practices of the company.
