About The Position

North Shore Steel Group is seeking an experienced Distribution Supervisor to lead operations at our structural steel distribution facility in East Houston. This is a critical leadership role responsible for driving safe, disciplined, and efficient warehouse and yard operations while developing a high-performing team. The Distribution Supervisor reports to the Steel Operations Manager and is responsible for supervising personnel, material flow, equipment readiness, safety compliance, and quality standards across all Steel Operations distribution activities during the shift. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who understands steel distribution, leads from the floor, and holds themselves and others to a high standard of execution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in steel distribution, warehouse supervision, or related operations
  • Strong working knowledge of structural steel products, material handling, and yard operations
  • Solid understanding of safety, quality, and operational standards in an industrial environment
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct, coach, and hold teams accountable
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic operational systems
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to lead by example

Responsibilities

  • Train, coach, and develop warehouse and yard personnel to achieve consistent productivity, accuracy, and customer service.
  • Ensure all team members report to work on time, prepared, and equipped with required PPE.
  • Assign work, set daily priorities, and actively supervise execution throughout the shift.
  • Maintain discipline, accountability, and clear communication across the team.
  • Enforce all company safety policies and ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Confirm completion of all pre-shift and daily inspections on cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
  • Immediately report operational issues, equipment concerns, or safety risks to the Operations Manager for corrective action.
  • Model “safety first” leadership and intervene promptly when standards are not met.
  • Maintain compliance with material quality assurance programs and handling standards.
  • Verify accurate movement, staging, and storage of steel products, including inventory of material.
  • Ensure accuracy in documentation, material identification, and load preparation.
  • Communicate shift performance and issues to leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying process gaps and recommending solutions.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment in all decisions.
