Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, up to 1 year of related work experience preferred.
  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology with an electrical theory or equivalent class.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of Journey Lineworker (Overhead or Underground) level field experience may qualify without a degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a step 7 Technician to advance to a Step 10 Technician.
  • Must pass the company administered standardized test (TECH).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Duquesne Light Company Safety Handbook.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the distribution and subtransmission systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in making mathematical and electrical computations.
  • Proven ability to work with customers, utility representatives, governmental representatives, and the public.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code.
  • Working knowledge of Computer Assisted Drawing (CAD) and GIS systems.
  • Must have and maintain a State Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and field work on projects related to providing service to customers from the distribution system.
  • Develop, rehabilitate, or alter the distribution system including overhead and underground facilities.
  • Perform design and field work in the development, rehabilitation, or alteration of all overhead and simple underground distribution facilities.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, calculations, estimates, construction authorities, permit requests and similar items associated with the assigned projects.
  • Use desktop and mobile computers with designated software to prepare design and construction drawings.
  • Make field trips to inspect the overhead and simple underground facilities.
  • Coordinate projects to ensure timely completion of the design phase.
  • Provide customers with one point of contact and meet with customers, including customer representatives, municipal representatives and utility representatives.
  • Inspect customer work to ensure compliance with Company specifications.
  • Perform field inspections of third party attachments, pre and post construction, of Company facilities.
  • Review applications for joint use attachment to Company assets.
  • Assist GIS Technicians involved in digital data collection of corporate inspections, distribution design and maintenance.
  • Organize, schedule and maintain records on work assignments.
