The District Nurse is responsible for overseeing and implementing health services for all students and staff across the district. This role includes assessing and addressing student health needs, managing chronic conditions, responding to medical emergencies, promoting health education, and ensuring compliance with state and federal health regulations. The nurse serves as a key liaison between the school, families, and community health resources. Health Services & Student Care: Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including first aid, medication administration, and emergency response. Assess and manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies) in collaboration with students, parents, and healthcare providers. Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs) for students with medical needs. Monitor immunization compliance and maintain up-to-date health records per state and district regulations. Conduct vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings as required. Emergency Response & Crisis Management: Respond to medical emergencies, administer first aid, and coordinate with emergency services as needed. Develop and implement district-wide emergency health protocols and procedures. Train staff on CPR, first aid, and emergency medical procedures. Health Education & Promotion: Provide health-related education to students, staff, and parents on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, mental health, and disease prevention. Support and promote wellness initiatives for both students and staff. Collaborate with counselors and administrators on student mental health concerns. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure district-wide compliance with state and federal health laws, including HIPAA and FERPA. Maintain accurate and confidential student health records. Prepare and submit required state and district health reports. Collaboration & Communication: Serve as a liaison between the district, parents, and healthcare providers. Work closely with administrators, teachers, and counselors to support student well-being.
