About The Position

Associated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, ASI is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff.  ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing.  ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. The campus recreation department manages the ASI Cal Poly Pomona PADI Education SCUBA Dive Center which primarily focuses on providing on and off-campus scuba experiences and courses for the campus and greater community through a series of regularly scheduled land and water-based workshops, try-its, certification courses, and professional level training.    POSITION DEFINITION  Under general supervision from the SCUBA Dive Center Coordinator and additional supervision and delegation of duties provided by the Dive Center Supervisor, the Dive Center Assistant is responsible for maintaining dive center operations and gear management at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC). The Dive Center Assistant is responsible for general Scuba Shack operations as well as gear handling, inventory, cleaning, and general gear repairs. This position performs skilled tasks requiring advanced certification, specialized knowledge, and some independent judgment and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Professional Association of Dive Professionals (PADI) Equipment Specialist Certification (provided upon hire)
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers certification and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification (or equivalent)
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Association of Dive Professionals (PADI) Scuba Diver Certification (equivalent or higher) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of the Scuba Shack
  • Cleans, inspects, and organizes gear after each use
  • Performs basic scuba maintenance including but not limited to filling tanks, replacing scuba equipment batteries, cleaning equipment O-rings, and replacing cylinder and gear O-rings
  • Identifies and provides general scuba equipment repair
  • Assists with gear needs before, during and after confined (in the pool) and open water trip (surrounding bodies of water or from shore or a boat) sessions
  • Assists with all other dive and rental center operations
  • Enforces PADI and industry SCUBA standards
  • Assists with special events, as needed
  • Transport participants to off-campus locations for scheduled programming as assigned
  • Maintains current knowledge of other ASI and Campus Recreation programs and services
  • Maintains open, professional communication with the SCUBA Dive Center Coordinator, Dive Center Supervisor, and Campus Recreation Leadership Team
  • Maintains records relevant to assigned duties
  • Attends trainings, meetings, and workshops as required
  • Maintains current certifications listed in qualifications
  • Performs other duties as assigned
