The position of Dock Technician – Mechanical supports operations on the waterfront including Graving Docks 1, 2, & 3; the Sea Shuttle; the Holland; the future Floating Dry Dock; vessels in dock and afloat; and floating equipment. The Dock Technicians perform preventive maintenance on cognizant equipment, stand watch (covering 3 shifts/day, 7 days/week), perform rounds of the Groton waterfront, respond to emergent issues, operate the Sea Shuttle and Holland in various shipyards (Groton, Quonset Point, Newport News Shipbuilding, Philadelphia, Norfolk Naval Shipyard), monitor the Sea Shuttle and Holland during tow from the supporting tug. Support all ship movements at the Groton shipyard. Dock Technicians are expected to support barge shipments in rotation including short (approximately 8 hour) tug trips between Groton and Quonset Point, and long (approximately 60 hour) tug trips between Groton/Quonset Point and Virginia. Additionally, Dock Technicians, regardless of shift, are expected to support docking/undocking evolutions. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated work ethic, a “can do” attitude, an ability to work independently and as part of the team, and the mechanical ability to maintain and repair equipment.
