About The Position

BEC represents one of the most remarkable demonstrations of the quantum nature of matter on a macroscopic scale. Magnons - the quanta of spin waves - are a bosonic quasi-particle that can condensate into a BEC at room temperature. The quantum coherence of magnon BEC holds great potential for quantum applications, which is yet to be explored. Recently there has been increasing interest in using NV centers to detect magnon states, but most of the previous work has been restricted to passive magnon modes. In this project, we aim to employ NV-based quantum sensors to investigate the properties of magnon BEC and explore its potential for quantum applications such as coherent quantum information transfer between distant spin qubits. To achieve this ambitious goal, we structure our project into two thrusts: 1) sensing magnons with NV center; 2) coherent coupling of magnon BEC to NV center. The proposed work builds upon the collective efforts including advanced nanofabrication, precise quantum measurement, detailed spectroscopy, and thorough theoretical study.
