About The Position

The project aims at developing a low-cost fabrication process for making high-temperature functional parts for the next generation solar power concentrationand utilization using MAX phase-based materials. MAX phase materials exhibitdesirable mechanical strength as well as superior electrical and thermalconductivities at elevated temperatures. Thermal energy technologies are criticalfor harvesting solar power to achieve energy savings. Students participate in theproject will be working with high temperature material synthesis instruments forfabrication of MAX phase materials and applying state of the art materialscharacterization techniques to understand materials processing conditions –structure – property relationships. This applied project will provide intern studentsa very good opportunity to conduct experiments and engage their further interestin scientific research.
