About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented DOT Compliance Manager to oversee and ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining safety programs, managing regulatory reporting, and ensuring all fleet operations adhere to federal, state, and local transportation laws. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as extensive experience in permitting for waste hauling.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a manager or key contributor focused on DOT/FMCSA compliance in the transportation industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, RCRA and OSHA regulations.
  • Extensive experience in permitting for waste hauling (solid waste and hazardous).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in compliance management software and ELD systems.
  • Ability to conduct training and enforce compliance protocols effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational abilities, with the ability to direct and achieve priorities, goals, and strategies with limited supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations and other documents.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers and typical software (e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work in both office and field environment, some travel required.
  • Travel <20%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in HAZMAT and tanker transportation operations strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee DOT compliance policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to FMCSA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies' requirements.
  • Maintain records related to driver qualification files, vehicle inspections, hours of service (HOS), and drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and oversee electronic logging devices (ELDs) and ensure proper use by drivers.
  • Coordinate driver training and safety programs to promote compliance and best practices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of required reports, filings, and permits.
  • Monitor and update company policies in response to changes in DOT regulations.
  • Work closely with managers, drivers, and other stakeholders to maintain a strong culture of safety and compliance.
  • Manage all aspects of development, implementation, standardization, and management of the Company’s Transportation Compliance Programs, including CMV Files, DOT Driver Qualification Files, Vehicle Inspections, Hours of Service, Driver Training, etc.
  • Monitor all compliance and non-compliance issues to develop compliance improvement plans, ensuring systematic resolution mechanisms are established in a timely manner.
  • Assure DOT drug/alcohol program is compliant with regulations including pre-employment drug screens, random drug screens, return to duty drug screens, post-accident drug screens and customer driven drug testing consortiums.
  • Ensures effective training is provided for Reasonable Suspicion, and all required training to meet both the DOT and Annual training requirement for all supervisors.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of permitting for waste hauling to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with operations and safety staff to support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of action items, and leverage learning across organization for all vehicle accidents and property damage incidents involving CMV’s.
