Job Description SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Drainage Technician Trainee performs manual labor and assists in construction, maintenance, and drainage system operations. This position involves the use of hand tools, support for skilled workers, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of job sites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists with installation or repair of water and sewer lines, including making new water or sewer taps. Inspects and cleans manholes to ensure proper function and safety. Hauls and unloads equipment, materials, and supplies for work projects. Operates hand tools and assists with light to medium construction tasks. May vacuum and water jet residential sewer lines. Provides traffic control during work projects to ensure the safety of workers and the public. Provides assistance to other workers as needed, ensuring smooth workflow on the job site. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
