About The Position

Under general direction, this position, oversees skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the concrete replacement, and general maintenance of the City’s storm water drainage system. Regularly supervises personnel and may assume duties of Drainage Utility Supervisor I in his absence. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

Requirements

  • Requires any combination of experience and training equivalent to a minimum of 2 years of experience in utility/storm drainage construction or maintenance, or similar type work.
  • Experience with utility/storm sewer concrete equipment required.
  • Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year, required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License when scheduled to attend CDL training course during probationary year.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Knowledge of grade level and the ability to shoot grade required.
  • Knowledge of storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment.
  • Must have working knowledge of light and medium equipment and trucks, i.e., 12 yard dump truck.
  • Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
  • Ability to operate medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees a concrete crew consisting of utility workers, truck drivers and a utility operator in the replacement, installation of new, and maintenance of concrete structures, as well as other functions within the Department as may be required.
  • Supervises the activities of all concrete repair, construction, and maintenance.
  • Responsible for all equipment and tools under his direction.
  • Assists supervisor with organizing and scheduling the activities of all Concrete repair and construction.
  • Orders and calculates materials needed for the job (concrete and related supplies). Also requires knowledge and ability to calculate application of such materials.
  • Trains new employees and cross-trains existing employees.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and observes maintenance schedule.
  • Knowledgeable in the use and maintenance of all equipment used in concrete related work - may be required to operate if needed.
  • Knowledgeable in the techniques required to set forms and finish concrete – may be required to assist with these operations as needed.
  • Knowledgeable in and capable of establishing the proper grade for forming activities and flow line requirements. (Shoot Grade)
  • Maintains safe working environment through the application of standard barricading and traffic safety procedures.
  • Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed.
  • Responsible for general oversight of all concrete repair operations and storage of materials.
  • Maintains an inventory of all tools.
  • Operates other equipment or trucks as needed during emergencies, trains on unfamiliar equipment or operates within comparable pay range when necessary.
  • Orders supplies from warehouse or outside suppliers as necessary.
  • Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices.
  • Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
