About The Position

Responsible for designing and managing an industry-leading driver onboarding and orientation program. The goal is to ensure the team they manage facilitates the best driver experience possible and create a seamless onboarding experience. Responsibilities will also include leveraging data to make informed decisions on how to improve the onboarding process for drivers. Manage a Driver Onboarding team; includes managing the day-to-day functions of the team, employee development, employee engagement, maintaining quality based on set standards as well as performance management. · Work with Director and VP to monitor KPIs for the Driver Experience, Driver Development, and Orientation teams. · Use data to recommend, design, and implement programs and/or training that measurably improves the driver experience, positively impacting departmental KPIs and driver attrition. Responsible for the delivery of all Driver Development curriculum to include practical application, simulation, instructor led and both asynchronous and synchronous modes through the Driver Development team. · Responsible for evaluating Driver Development Specialist based on set standards and developing individual plans to close gaps to ensure the best learning transfer techniques are being utilized. · Responsible for staying current with the Driver Core Competency model and ensuring team maintains expert knowledge of model. · Conducts regular audits on infrastructure, material, tools, technology, and any other items at terminals that are required to maintain the Driver Onboarding production process. Responsible to maintain, replace or replenish identified deficiencies. · Responsible for maintaining driver training records and KPI reporting. · Assists and supports the facilitation of Driver Onboarding tasks as needed to ensure a positive driver experience. · Interact with drivers to resolve onboarding issues; ensure the department adequately supports driver onboarding processes and training. · Travel to USX locations as necessary to engage with staff and ensure processes are being executed in accordance with established protocols. · Serve as liaison to the third-party vendors/suppliers that provide products and services used in the driver onboarding process. · Tracks drivers through the onboarding process and reports on areas of friction and loss during driver onboarding and training, identifying opportunities to improve the driver experience. · Maintain regulatory expertise through independent study and participation in various industry events. · Develops and maintains positive and productive intradepartmental relationships with all departments and stakeholders. · Implement process/procedure changes in response to improvement initiatives and other business drivers; ensure changes are properly communicated to the Driver Onboarding team. · Works with Recruiting and Fleet Operations to meet weekly/monthly/quarterly recruiting and retention goals. · Administrative responsibilities include: o Manages department budget by tracking projected costs, inventory, and budget variances for department projects. o Hires and trains Driver Onboarding personnel. o Oversees and maintains paperless file system. o Oversees the billing process of various vendors. o Assigns cohorts to Driver Experience Specialist, ensuring the lowest possible ratio to drivers. o Ensures compliance in the handling and management of personnel, medical, and driver qualification files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience required
  • 5+ years related experience in training/development required
  • 5+ years of face-to-face customer service or hospitality experience required
  • Strong training skills; classroom presentation/facilitation and OJT required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with a sincere desire to help others
  • Positive and engaging attitude, willingness to connect with drivers
  • Ability to communicate to a wide variety of management levels ranging from one-on-one meetings to large management meetings
  • Ability to lead cross functional project teams and effectively manage outside consultants/vendors
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, Adobe and other training development applications required
  • Ability to apply technology and best business practices to improve complex processes
  • Improvement-minded and willing to own creating solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Transportation industry experience preferred; CDL not required
  • Onboarding and/or employee orientation experience preferred
  • APTD certification required within first year of employment
  • Experience with Tenstreet and/or other CRM tools preferred
