About The Position

Under supervision of the General Superintendent/ Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for safely driving a commercial vehicle and requires compliance with safety & DOT Regulations, continuous training and customer service. Typical schedules are Monday Friday, with weekends required as needed. Must know how to drive a standard transmission Dump Truck drivers operate trucks to and from the shop, transport materials from job sites to disposal sites, and assist crew as needed. Must have a valid Class B CDL license. Low Boy/Tractor Trailer drivers operate combination vehicles over 26,000 lbs., tow trailers over 10,000 lbs., and must be able to strap, chain, and tarp loads as needed. Must have a valid Class A CDL license. Roll-off drivers operate heavy-duty trucks and are responsible for preparing, loading, and transporting large mobile open top and compactor containers to disposal sites, transfer or recycle facilities and customer locations. Must have a valid Class A or B CDL license. Incumbent is expected to have excellent attendance and communication skills, possess the ability to build lasting business relationships, and exhibit professionalism.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One to three years experience driving (dependent on position hired)
  • Valid CDL: Class A or Class B
  • Driver with minimum 1 to 3 years experience based on position hired: Dump truck Class B CDL with 1-year previous experience Roll off Class A or B CDL with 1 to 2 years previous experience Low Boy/Tractor trailer Class A CDL with 2 3 years previous experience
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance of duty on secured locations.
  • Must know how to drive a standard transmission.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in civil utilities preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Royal American Construction / Southern Coastal Containers company policies, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, municipal, state, and federal laws
  • Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
  • Report any safety issues to the General Superintendent/ Supervisor or Foreman
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area (truck and trailer)
  • Immediately report any unsafe situations or service-related issues to the General Superintendent/ Supervisor
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled/ required training programs, briefings, and meetings
  • Notify the General Superintendent/ Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
