About The Position

This position serves the citizens of Atlanta by supervising the day-to-day operations of staff conducting multiple compliance-related field investigations and providing direct support to the Stormwater Compliance Division Manager. This position ensures the Stormwater Compliance Division is compliant with the City’s First Amended Consent Decree, the City’s Stormwater Management Plan and NPDES permit. Duties include but are not limited to supervising The Creek Crossing/Right-of-Way Inspection Team who conduct inspections of sewer mains at elevated creek crossings and sewer mains/force mains in right-of-way’s and easements. These inspections identify structural damage to the sewer main crossing and prevent sewer spills to our local creeks, rivers, and streams. This position requires work outdoors in inclement weather, year-round in challenging conditions such as traveling on foot through areas with no developed access. This is a skilled, experienced level position for an individual capable of carrying out assignments typical of the position with limited guidance or review.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of regulations, concepts, principles, and procedures related to stormwater compliance and inspections as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable ordinances, policies and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Ability to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, and operations, as they pertain to departmental inspections, operations and activities.
  • Ability to be organized and possess strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to utilize and understand computer applications and techniques as necessary for database management and the completion of daily assignments.
  • Skilled in effectively communicating with management, team members and the public.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science related field (Biology, Environmental Management, Forestry, etc.) and/or minimum five years of experience in creek crossing and right-of-way inspection activities.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers’ License at the time of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain status as a Code Enforcement Agent, as certified by the Atlanta Police Department.
  • Must obtain Level II Georgia Soil and Water Commission Specialist Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Aerial Creek Crossing and Right-of-Way personnel in their various inspections/departmental activities
  • Ensures personnel complete daily tasks and inspections properly and timely
  • Schedule and review inspections
  • Ensures inquiries and complaints are responded to promptly
  • Ensure database system updated accurately and timely
  • Adress various regulatory complaints and governmental issues as assigned
  • Coordinate with other departments to complete departmental objectives
