About The Position

Stamford Health has an opening for a full-time Emergency Department Technician! The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) will assist in the delivery of care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a practicing physician, physician assistant, and/or licensed nurse. Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification or Diploma from accredited Medical Assistant school/program required (National Certification preferred).
  • OR
  • EMT-B Certification - EMT certification required on hire.
  • OR
  • CNA certification with two plus years as ED technician experience in similar setting.
  • OR
  • Third- or fourth-year nursing student.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility due to unexpected changes in workload.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Obtains de-escalation certification (CPI or MOAB) during orientation and maintains current certification during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direction of the practicing physician, physician assistant (PA), and/or licensed nurse (RN).
  • Performs all duties with a focus on patient and customer satisfaction.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room in the department.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing laboratory tests, running point of care test, drawing blood, preparing patients for x-rays and other radiology tests, Vital signs, pain scale, performing electrocardiograms.
  • Applies simple dressing and placing splints under the direction of the practicing physician, PA and/or RN.
  • Assists in application of restraints as directed by practicing physician, PA and/or RN.
  • Transport patients to inpatient units, procedural areas, and discharged patients.
  • Document patient care in electronic medical record.
  • Participates as a member of the Code Green, Sepsis, PAMI, Stroke, Thrombectomy and Trauma team including specific responsibilities in the ED.
  • Maintain patient flow in assigned areas of the department and patient throughput throughout the department.
  • Stocks patient rooms, supply carts and procedural carts.
  • Assists in procedures under the direction of practicing physician, PA and/or RN.
  • Participates in the education and training of new staff, students and volunteers.
  • Participates in and supports performance improvement and risk management activities.
  • Assumes role of patient care attendant as needed and completes required PCA log.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies, calling for repairs in collaboration with the Manager.
