Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design engineering of large capital projects.
  • Knowledge of the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
  • Experience with utility standards, joint facilities design, compatible units, and construction package development
  • Familiarity with distribution design software, both overhead and underground, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices
  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Prior utility experience
  • Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS); GE Smallworld, ArcFM, DDS, etc.
  • Exposure to Work Management programs such as STORMS and WMIS
  • Strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills

Responsibilities

  • The qualified candidate should be familiar with the design and operation of utility electrical systems which they can apply their knowledge for developing new designs
  • The ability to apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop the most complete and competent design
  • Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
