About The Position

WSP is currently seeking an Early Career Environmental Scientist to work in-person out of our Gainesville, FL office. Takes part in providing technical assistance for the operation of a nationwide, 90+ site air quality monitoring network, including equipment inventory, maintenance, and troubleshooting; laboratory support; data review and problem identification; documentation; and shipping logistics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Geography or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Limited travel during first two years of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • R and/or Python coding experience.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific educational discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintenance, repair, inventory, and ordering of ambient air quality and meteorological monitoring or analogous equipment and associated data loggers.
  • Perform and document calibration, certification and repairs of ambient air quality monitoring equipment and analyzers in a laboratory and field environment.
  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting and reviewing data from ambient monitoring sites. Perform routine data analysis and preparation and review of reports.
  • Provide basic technical assistance on various monitoring site support issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and notebook/logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move heavy calibration kits and equipment.
