About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, Early Career Geochemist to join its team in Lakewood, CO. The following locations will also be considered: Seattle, WA or Redmond, WA. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. In this role, the selected candidate will support hydrogeochemistry-related projects with an emphasis on environmental hydrogeochemistry for projects in the mining industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geochemistry, or related field.
  • 0 to1 years of experience working as a Geochemist or adjacent professional discipline
  • Strong coursework or experience in aqueous chemistry and/or low-temperature geochemistry
  • Knowledge of geology, geochemistry, hydrochemistry, mineralogy, hydrology, and/or chemical hydrogeology with a strong quantitative background
  • Experience with data manipulation and compilation, including experience with data management and statistical tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R)
  • Experience with water quality and geochemical modeling using common codes (i.e., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, MIN3P, etc.)
  • Experience producing written reports and presentations to convey technical information
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Occasional travel, including international, may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Eligible to work permanently in the United States, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a pre-employment physical (including drug screening) and criminal background check

  • Experience with data validation techniques for environmental data
  • Working knowledge of a specialized branch of geochemistry (e.g., isotope geochemistry, organic contaminants, microbially-mediated degradation processes, or coal combustion residue (CCR) chemistry)
  • Understanding of laboratory analytical methods

Responsibilities

  • Providing support for hydrogeochemical projects, including permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation, in particular for the mining industry, but also for the oil and gas, power, and solid waste industries
  • Conducting hydrogeochemical investigation and characterization studies associated with groundwater, surface water, wastes, and geological materials
  • Validating, management and analysis of hydrogeochemical data
  • Conducting hydrogeochemical modeling
  • Preparing report and presentations and participating in client meetings
  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus
  • Working with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
