About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer for our Billings, MT office. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Billings Substation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. The Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with WSP's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain WSP's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients. The Early Career Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with our mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its goals of the department, maintain our high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

Requirements

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on
  • Candidates should enjoy living in the Billings area, or have a desire and ability to relocate there with minimal assistance
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • 3+ months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis
  • Minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design

Responsibilities

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to: One-line diagrams, Schematics, Wiring diagrams, SCADA, Communications, Station physical layouts, Sections/Elevations, Cable and conduit plans and details, Ground grid design and details, Foundation plans and details, Structural plans and details, Control enclosure design and details, Lightning protection plans, Yard lighting plans, Bills of Materials, Site visits.
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
