About The Position

The Case Manager in the Education Program will report directly to the Education Program Manager and will join the Education Program team. CIRA's education program is designed to help refugees gain access to educational programming that will support their long-term success. We are hiring someone who has a demonstrated passion for working with refugees, has a working knowledge of the Omaha education system and job market, and can work in a fast-paced environment with clients and teammates from many different cultural and national backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in education or related fields preferred; High School diploma or GED required
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) required; Fluency in other languages commonly spoken by client populations preferred
  • Proven ability to develop curricula and professional experience teaching English language learners or other relatable teaching experience
  • Basic understanding of the refugee resettlement process preferred
  • Proficiency in typing, using a computer, and navigating the internet for research purposes
  • Proficiency in Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and ability to learn case management databases
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities to build professional relationships
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Professional demeanor with positive, enthusiastic approach to work
  • Commitment to providing excellent service to all clients
  • Demonstrates reliability through consistent attendance and time management
  • Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or trauma-affected individuals and families preferred
  • Ability to pass all required background checks
  • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States

  • Teaching certificate preferred
  • Working knowledge of Omaha’s education systems and educational partners preferred

Responsibilities

  • Recruit clients for education classes
  • Complete Education Program intake with clients
  • Complete education barriers assessment
  • Work with the client to set education goals and create individualized educational success plan
  • Maintain client’s profiles and upload eligibility and educational documents to online database
  • Write case notes and keep the online case file up to date
  • Complete required forms
  • Update the client’s training and education records
  • Assist clients in enrolling children into K-12 schools
  • Refer clients to educational programs in line with their future career goals and help clients apply to these programs and classes
  • Education/career planning with clients
  • Set up/provide transportation for initial education services
  • Create and update curricula, lesson plans, and teaching materials for classes such as ESL, Cultural Orientation, Job Readiness, Learner’s Permit, Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy and any other classes or programming CIRA might conduct for clients
  • Teaching classes and lead programming listed above
  • Organize classes and coordinate transportation, interpretation, and communication with clients and case managers
  • Collaborate and coordinate with community partners
  • Attend the Omaha Refugee Task Force Education Committee meetings on behalf of CIRA
  • Complete required follow-ups with clients to ensure educational goals are met
