About The Position

The Education Program Coordinator (Learning Coordinator) supports the development and implementation of youth-centered programming focused on education and academic achievement for participants ages 12–24. Housed at the Liliʻuokalani Center (LC), this role coordinates accessible, relevant, and engaging opportunities that empower Native Hawaiian youth and Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) beneficiaries (kamaliʻi) to explore personal strengths, identify meaningful career and entrepreneurial pathways, and develop skills that are integral to their transition to adult roles. The position will focus on programs related to secondary, post-secondary, alternative, and career/technical education. Liliʻuokalani Center Liliʻuokalani Center programs are designed to engage youth ages 12 - 24 in the spectrum of adolescent development, providing kamaliʻi spaces, programming, and resources while creating a hub for youth co-development. Core to the LC program framework is the focus on centering Native Hawaiian youth voice around culture and connection in Hawaiʻi while promoting healing for early experiences that have created dissonance, challenge, or trauma. Events, activities and multi-week programs are designed to support kamaliʻi in deepening their awareness, discovery and understanding of cultural identity, community, and place while progressing through learning and developments that guide their transition to adult roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or relevant field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching young people (preferably Native Hawaiian youth, preferably in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics)
  • Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract
  • Able to work evenings, Saturdays, and holidays when required
  • Able to work independently and on a team with a demostrated balance of leadership and collaboration skills
  • TB clearance
  • Collaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams—knowledge of community resources and services
  • Ethical Practice: Model the highest level of ethical behavior, integrity, and social responsibility Uphold and embody all LT values
  • Communication: Clearly convey and receive information and ideas, engage the listener and invite response and feedback, and demonstrate strong written, oral, and listening skills
  • Cultural Competence: Respect and relate well to people from varied backgrounds and sensitive to group differences, and experience working with opportunity youth and ability to apply positive youth development principles
  • Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and to remain calm and controlled when faced with challenging situations

Responsibilities

  • Plan with the Life Readiness Pathways Team to develop programming aligned to the 2045 Strategic Plan (Wehe ke Ala).
  • Support the design and implementation of programming that helps youth develop as learners, with an emphasis on hands-on learning and mentorship
  • Create courses to fit in a diverse selection of learning offerings that include opportunities to work towards high school equivalency, college preparatory, and “moonshots,” designed to encourage kamaliʻi creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth
  • Co-develop curriculum that is strengths-based, culturally relevant, and aligned to academic outcomes within educational systems
  • Integrate Native Hawaiian practices and concepts to expand cultural identity and local perspectives while connecting youth to other indigenous/Pasifika and global communities
  • Collaborate with Life Readiness Pathways Team to develop, manage, and track program outcomes related to education, academic achievement, and strategic plan goals
  • Support contracted facilitators, mentors, and industry professionals delivering Life Readiness programs
  • Support Learning Design manager and Life Readiness team in delivering programming.
  • Work collaboratively with the Learning Design Manager to develop data collection processes that provide regular, actionable feedback from participants to inform program design and report to Research & Evaluation
  • Work collaboratively with program leadership to ensure appropriate staffing and supervision of all program spaces
  • Provide program coverage as necessary
  • Provide ongoing support for program teammates
  • Maintain strong relationships with local and national partners and serve as a liaison for partnership implementation
  • Identify and cultivate, in collaboration with teammates and Community Resources team, relevant community partnerships
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends in youth services and performing arts, ensuring that community initiatives and programmatic strategies are aligned with current needs and environment
  • Collaborate with Life Readiness Pathway Team on program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation
  • Provide transportation as needed for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations
  • Participate in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development
  • Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organizational results
