About The Position

Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for three temporary 6 hour Educational Assistant II for High Dosage Tutoring at Prairie Mountain, Malabon, and Danebo Elementary Schools. Nature of Work An Educational Assistant II provides individual and small group support and personal assistance, often in a standard or special purpose educational program, to students with distinct and exceptional educational needs and challenges as determined by a certificated specialist. The primary purpose of these positions will be to provide high-dosage tutoring support, delivering targeted, skill-based instruction aligned to classroom curriculum and district literacy priorities. These positions will also screen and assess the educational needs of students, provide instructional assistance to students in a classroom, and recording results. High-dosage tutoring assignments emphasize consistent, frequent instructional sessions with identified students, progress monitoring, and instructional adjustments based on student performance data. A position of this class may be assigned full-time to a student with a physical impairment that requires the employee to assist with school tasks the student cannot perform, such as attending class and taking notes; carrying books; adapting written school materials; personal cleanliness and hygiene; administering medication; setting up or operating specially adapted equipment; food preparation and feeding the student; and assisting the student to communicate with teachers, classmates, and others. A position of this class may tutor students, individually or in small groups, providing instructional assistance in a variety of subjects or courses. In high-dosage tutoring roles, instruction is structured, explicit, and focused on foundational skill development (such as early literacy or mathematics), delivered multiple times per week to support accelerated student growth. The position may administer and score standardized or curriculum-based assessments and maintain student records in conformance with government regulations and district expectations. Requirements

  • Knowledge of educational programs offered in all schools and of basic educational techniques, as required by the position.
  • Knowledge of the basic developmental stages of a child's learning process.
  • Ability to schedule the workload and meet the needs of the program.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with small groups and individual students in special programs.
  • Ability to prepare materials for lesson plans.
  • Ability to interact positively with children and adults, and observe individual student abilities.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents and co-workers.
  • Ability to learn safe lifting and proper physical positioning techniques to place students in student desks or in passenger vehicles, as required by the position
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate standard office and audio-visual equipment, as required by the position.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals.
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous course work and training, or child development, childcare or instructional assistance experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities needed to perform the work.
  • Ability to prove Highly Qualified status under NCLB, or pass Bethel School District’s “Highly Qualified Assessment”.
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training that ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Upon offer of employment applicants must obtain a fingerprint clearance from the Oregon Department of Education through a process authorized by the Bethel School District.
  • Applicants would be responsible for the one-time fingerprint clearance fee.

Responsibilities

  • Determines students' educational needs by assisting a teacher with administering, scoring test results; maintains and updates student daily progress records; monitors student response to instruction and supports data-informed instructional adjustments; keeps records on test scores, grades, attendance and other related data in compliance with government funding and program requirements.
  • Assists in developing lesson plans for students, prepares instructional materials, provides instructional assistance to students, tutors students using evidence-based, structured instructional routines, reads and paraphrases tests, and provides assistance in problem solving skills.
  • Provides assistance in language, visual, gross and fine motor, and sensory skills, using a variety of developmental learning materials; conducts reading and math skill practice sessions and performs math and reading timings, charts results in student folders, and updates computer database and other required record keeping.
  • Observes and participates in recording student progress and correcting papers, confers and consults regularly with teachers and specialists regarding student progress; communicates academic growth, instructional needs, and observations to support instructional planning.
