Requirements

  • License /Certification Required: BLS
  • Ability to work cooperatively with patients and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Education Preferred: High school graduate with strong background in biology, human anatomy and mathematics.
  • Experience Preferred: One year previous healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a safe recording environment, performs necessary lab maintenance, cleans equipment/electrodes/work space, restocks room, alerts supervisor of supply shortages.
  • Establishes rapport with patient and patient's family as appropriate to patient's age and mental capacity.
  • Performs patient assessment and prepares a basic data sheet.
  • Follows the 10/20 measurement system for electrode application.
  • Calibrates and documents the working condition of both digital and analog EEG instruments, verifies standard filter and sensitivity settings, and records bio-cal signal to all channels.
  • Obtains a standard EEG recording in accordance with written lab standards.
  • Understands and follows technical criteria for ECI, neonatal EEG, Pediatric EEG and recording in intensive care or cardiac care units.
  • Able to differentiate artifact from cerebral waveforms.
  • Has a working knowledge of functional neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and effect of medication on EEG background and waveforms.
  • Applies the principles of electronics and mathematics to EEG recording.
  • Assists in the overall function of the department by answering phones, make appointments, answers patient/physician questions, provides verbal reports to physicians, routes calls or takes messages as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs.
  • Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
