The EH&S Intern plays a key role in executing assigned EH&S tasks. This includes gaining hands-on experience working with other EHS professionals and manufacturing operations personnel at all Byrne Supply Chain Organization (SCO) locations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in a field related to EHS.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of EHS principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work together with the plant site management team and the Corporate EHS team to support the implementation of effective site safety and health programs.
  • Report food safety problems and initiate action to support Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  • Communicate effectively between shifts and other departments.
  • Complete safety inspections at all Byrne (SCO) locations.
  • Complete environmental inspections (storm water, chemical bulk storage, petroleum storage, etc.).
  • Develop and update EHS procedures.
  • Perform personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments
  • Complete and update Job Hazard Analyses.
  • Complete Safety Observations and manage data associated with the Decision-Based Safety Management program.
  • Develop and update equipment-specific lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Perform industrial hygiene sampling.
  • Create sound maps for Byrne manufacturing facilities.
  • Prepare and update emergency plan information (evacuation routes, emergency lists, etc.).
  • Participate and eventually lead Root Cause Analysis investigations of employee injuries.
  • Track Safety Action Items to ensure timely completion.
  • Prepare and update safety training and education information.
  • Research and help select EHS software solution.
  • Manage Cooling Tower data to meet Department of Health requirements.
  • Collect and manage data required by site environmental permits and registrations (air, waste transport, wastewater treatment, etc.).
  • Complete calibrations of EHS monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare environmental reports, e.g. EPA Tier 2 and EPA TRI.
  • Issue Site Safety Permits (Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, etc.).
  • Other EHS duties as assigned by EHS Leadership.
