About The Position

AWI is currently seeking an EH&S Manager to provide leadership and oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety processes at our Marietta Ceiling Plant. In this role, you will develop and implement strategies that support the plant’s manufacturing, maintenance, and distribution operations in achieving Environmental, Health, and Safety performance objectives. This role plays a key leadership position in building a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement in environmental and safety performance across the facility. Note: Relocation assistance is available to the Marietta, PA area for this position. Travel may be required up to 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, or related field.
  • 2+ years of Environmental, Health, and Safety management experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Functional knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene practices.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance programs including Title V, New Source Review, NESHAPs, and NPDES permits.
  • Experience creating and implementing safety programs including SOPs, JSA programs, and ergonomics initiatives.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with moderately complex initiatives.
  • Strong experience with incident investigations using structured methods such as RCFA or 5 Why.
  • Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence safety culture across union and non-union teams.
  • Ability to partner effectively with employees at all levels of the organization to promote safe work practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities for incident investigation and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to lead projects and initiatives that improve environmental and safety performance.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain regulatory requirements and safety expectations.
  • Experience using data and operational insights to drive continuous safety improvements.
  • Ability to balance regulatory compliance, operational needs, and employee engagement.
  • Commitment to creating a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation and case management programs.
  • Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).
  • Certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working with operational data systems such as Data Historian, Infinity, Microsoft Access, or SAP.
  • Ability to analyze and integrate data from multiple sources to improve EHS performance and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Environmental, Health, and Safety goals and strategies aligned with plant, corporate, and operational objectives.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and execution of initiatives that drive EHS performance improvement.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and regulatory reporting to maintain compliance.
  • Partner with leadership teams, union representatives, and hourly employees to encourage safe work behaviors and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permit requirements and regulatory standards including Title V, NPDES, SRBC, EPCRA, TRI, and emissions reporting.
  • Lead projects and initiatives that improve environmental and safety performance across plant operations.
  • Participate in plant strategic planning to ensure EHS compliance and alignment with operational goals.
  • Drive a sustainable safety culture through implementation of plant safety programs and initiatives.
  • Lead initiatives focused on risk reduction, incident prevention, and safety system effectiveness, including risk assessments, incident investigations, safety coaching, line audits, and safety training.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Armstrong safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide expertise on OSHA regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with plant leadership and employees to identify and implement safety improvement opportunities using feedback, observations, and operational data.
  • Participate in Lean and GEMBA activities to strengthen employee engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate environmental regulations and internal compliance programs.
  • Support Armstrong sustainability initiatives.
  • Respond to operational issues when necessary, including environmental upset conditions and safety incident case management.
  • Maintain and update the EHS Glass Wall to track safety performance and reporting metrics.
  • Partner with occupational health nurses to manage workers’ compensation cases and case management processes.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to 2–3 EHS Specialists.
