The EHS & Facilities Manager is the key position of the Site Leadership Team in the Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) area of expertise. The primary objective of the role is to protect and enhance the safety of our employees and our Site environmental sustainability through prevention, fostering a culture of caring where the function is ingrained as a core value, achieving world-class performance. The position ensures compliance with all EHS&S aspects of the Site and sets local strategies for overall success in alignment with corporate policy and common practices. This position reports to the Sr. Plant Manager and is part of the Beckman Coulter Life Sciences Global EHS&S Function working at a Beckman Coulter Life Sciences site, San Jose. In this role, you will have the following opportunities: EHS&S Culture: Drive a strong EHS&S culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA/EPA/DOT, FM Global, and ISO 14001/45001. Own Site EHS&S KPIs, audit readiness, risk assessments, incident investigations, ergonomic evaluations, and continuous program improvement. EHS&S Leadership & Technical Expertise: Serve as the site’s EHS&S coach and SME, providing training, mentoring, and hands-on support for incident prevention, root-cause analysis, safe work practices, and contractor safety. Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching to Factory EHS&S staff; responsible for developing team capabilities and achieving results through effective communication and influence. Environmental & Safety Management Systems: Enhance EHS&S management systems, including documentation, program development, performance monitoring, audits, and alignment with corporate and global initiatives. Operational Risk & Safety Integration: Integrate EHS&S into daily operations, equipment installs, and processes. Ensure hazard identification, risk mitigation, safe design, fire protection, emergency preparedness, and preventive/predictive maintenance Facilities & Project Management: Manage facilities operations, vendors, preventive maintenance, and construction projects. Ensure all work meets safety standards, code requirements, FM Global guidance, and operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with 8+ years of experience OR bachelor degree with 5+ years of experience OR master degree with 3+ years of experience including experience in EHS and Facilities management (Corporate building/functions support)
  • Previous leadership or management experience including project management experience.
  • Experience driving projects and leading data using lean and six sigma or other tools such as problem-solving, value stream mapping, and kaizen events.
  • Leadership and Communication: Strong project management, cross-cultural collaboration, and ability to influence senior leadership.
  • May occasionally reach, squat, twist, or kneel; frequent use of hands for handling objects and computer work; occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, or crawling.
  • Must frequently lift up to 20 lbs and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s in Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or another applicable field.
  • 5+ years in EHS&S experience, ideally within life sciences, R&D, biotech, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • 3+ years’ experience in facilities management
