About The Position

BSI Consulting Services is seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental (EHS) Specialist to support the EHS department at a biopharmaceutical laboratory and research facility in the Boston area. This role will provide EHS support to Facilities, with a strong focus on contractor oversight for construction activities at a new facility, while also supporting ongoing laboratory safety and compliance programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or EHS-related field
  • 1–3+ years of EHS experience (consulting or industry)
  • Experience with lab safety, biosafety, hazardous materials, and/or construction safety oversight
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience conducting compliance audits
  • Experience with risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Familiarity with contractor safety management and construction safety standards preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory inspections; observe, document, and investigate unsafe work conditions
  • Partner with lab personnel to develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and identify project-specific risks
  • Perform risk assessments, lead incident investigations, and implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Lead and support safety meetings with stakeholders to proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Oversee chemical management, including: New chemical approvals Storage and segregation Flammability considerations Hazardous inventory reviews for permit compliance
  • Deliver safety training (e.g., new hire orientation, bloodborne pathogens, general safety topics)
  • Support hazardous waste compliance, including Large Quantity Generator (LQG) requirements
  • Assist with spill response, cleanup, and regulatory reporting as needed
  • Implement and maintain biosafety, hazard communication, and chemical safety programs
  • Maintain and improve EHS management systems
  • Support site compliance initiatives and safe work practices
  • Support Facilities with EHS oversight of construction activities for new facility projects
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with: Site Safety Specifications Contract safety requirements Applicable OSHA and regulatory standards
  • Conduct and document routine construction safety inspections
  • Evaluate ongoing work activities and perform hazard analyses
  • Assess effectiveness of contractor mitigation strategies and recommend improvements
  • Identify, document, and communicate safety concerns and deficiencies to the Site Safety Manager
  • Issue deficiency notices and track corrective actions through resolution
  • Maintain detailed documentation, including: Daily safety logs Inspection and audit reports Site visitation records Safety checklists and compliance documentation
