About The Position

The EHS-Sustainability Manager will lead the development and execution of comprehensive environmental, health, safety, and sustainability strategies across the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote sustainable business practices. This role is pivotal in driving initiatives that minimize environmental impact, enhance workplace safety, and foster a culture of sustainability throughout all levels of the company. The Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability goals into operational processes, product development, and corporate social responsibility efforts. They will also oversee risk management related to environmental and safety concerns, ensuring that the company meets or exceeds industry standards and stakeholder expectations. Ultimately, this position aims to position the company as a leader in sustainability while safeguarding employee well-being and supporting long-term business resilience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or closely related degree required with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an EH&S leadership position.
  • Experience with Title V and Haz waste programs.
  • Experience leading TSCA and REACH registration.
  • Experience with SDS development.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic EH&S processes.
  • Management of occupational and process safety or environmental management systems.
  • Proven experience with developing and leading EH&S training programs.
  • Experienced with incident investigation tools and techniques, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
  • Oral communication – talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Written comprehension – the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Responsibilities

  • Set directions for Process Safety Engineer, Environmental Engineer, EHS Specialist, and Security Staff in the EH&S and Security functions.
  • Provide leadership to ensure global regulatory compliance, i.e. Toxic Substances and Control Act (TSCA), FIFRA, and REACH, etc.
  • Lead and manage site’s sustainability program and all internal and external sustainability reporting.
  • Lead the facilities International Trade in Arms Regulation (ITAR) sitewide program.
  • Develop, implement and maintain environmental, process safety, health and safety policies, plans and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Site coordinator of ChemStewards Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Management System Program. Also serve as SOCMA representative.
  • Build responsibility for compliance with EH&S systems by providing guidance, advice and direction to all staff members.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the workplace and maintain a working relationship with all employees.
  • Serve as site liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Perform EH&S compliance audits/assessments of facility and contractor work activities.
  • Conduct site specific safety audits and manage audit reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all areas of the facility.
  • Manage the EH&S program budget.
  • Lead the facility’s Emergency Response efforts as required.
  • Lead investigation of injuries and environmental non-compliances; root cause analysis.
  • Manage environmental permitting and reporting requirements for the facility.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene program.
  • Coordinate with HR and execute the site occupational medical program.
  • Drive continuous improvement of, and compliance with the company’s required safety training.
  • Maintain safety data and safety related reports and files including annual OSHA report and related compliance reports including SDS sheets, Injury & Illness Prevention Plan, Hazard Communication plan, etc.
  • Ensure overall compliance with OSHA requirements for all workplace practices.
  • Maintain and update as needed SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day-to-day training.
  • Perform job hazard analysis to identify hazards within the workplace.
  • Ensure that Customer required environmental and safety policies and procedure are available and updated at all times.
  • Serve as lead for site Safety Committee.
  • Serve as lead Process Hazard Analysis Facilitator.
