We are seeking an EHS Technician for our First Quality Baby Products site located in Macon, GA. This position will be responsible for providing technical skills in the operation and support of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to maintain an accident-free work environment and ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three to five years manufacturing experience, preferred 1-5 years of entry level Environmental, Health, and Safety experience, or Associate's degree in related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline and / or equivalent experience.
  • Basic First aid and CPR certified a plus
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills are required
  • Strong computer proficiency is a plus
  • Basic understanding of EHS related standards and/or regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NRC, NFPA, ANSI, NIOSH)
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective actions
  • Internal candidates should have no write-ups or disciplinary actions for safety in 24 months
  • Internal candidates should not be on Written Warning 2 or higher for any reason
  • Occasional sitting with frequent standing/walking during workday.
  • Frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, and reaching overhead throughout shift.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling with arms, legs, and body throughout shift.
  • Frequent lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional repetitive use of hands.
  • Occasional simple/light and firm/strong grasping with the hands.
  • Occasional operation of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) during shift.
  • Occasional use of hand and/or power tools to safely complete tasks.
  • Able to type and read small print on screen and blueprints/schematics
  • Ability to travel as needed to other sites via commercial airline or vehicle
  • Physically capable of wearing all required PPE (i.e. safety footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.)
  • Able to communicate well
  • Able to hear alarms at 85 decibels, with or without assistive device, through background noise
  • Able to distinguish colors – yellow, red, green, orange, brown, and blue
  • Work in an environment with the potential for exposure to dust during certain tasks
  • Ability to work overtime as needed or identified by department manager
  • Work for several hours in wet, dry, hot, and cold environments inside and outside of the facility
  • Rare travel for work required (i.e. other company locations, conferences, vendor sites, etc.)
  • Work under pressure of deadlines and manage moderate levels of stress
  • Walking over rough uneven terrain, mud and gravel surfaces in construction and outdoor work areas

  • Certification(s) in Occupational EHS related fields a plus

Responsibilities

  • Aspire to achieve a zero-injury culture through visible support of the injury prevention and EHS programs.
  • Ensure required Environmental, Health, and Safety training is complete for all team members.
  • Active participation/facilitation in EHS related meetings and training sessions
  • Participate/Facilitate in the new hire EHS orientation process
  • Assist organization in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities
  • Conduct/Lead Risk Assessment teams
  • Conduct/Lead Safety Committee meetings
  • Participate in ERT drills and training sessions
  • Conduct hands on fire extinguisher training
  • Participate in maintaining EHS documents / records
  • Work with third party Industrial Hygienist in accordance with the IH program
  • Conduct regular walk-through EHS inspections to identify hazards, document findings, recommend corrective actions and follow through to ensure corrections have been made
  • Assist in establishing policies for preventive actions through studying accidents and potential risks in general work environments
  • Investigate accidents, identify root cause, and assist in implementing corrective actions
  • Conduct periodic internal FQ and contractor EHS audits
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing the return-to-work program for injured workers
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all employees, vendors and customers
  • Facilitate communication of company EHS policies, procedures and standards with all visitors, including contractors and vendors
  • Complete administrative responsibilities and documentation, including training records, accident / incident reporting, etc.
  • Track and trend incident data in Safety Management System
  • Maintain safety data sheets in MSDS Online and physical binders and keep GHS label stations stocked
