About The Position

Prepares election equipment, including equipment inventory, installation, programming, deployment, repair and testing. Serves as the helpdesk technical support during elections. Management Scope: Supervises up to ten (10) part-time employees.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in electronics or in a job related field of study.
  • One (1) year of work related experience.
  • Most possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Experience with electronics, hand tools and skilled in the use of standard software applications.
  • Restrictions exist on the ability to be a candidate for a public office or an office of a political party, hold a public office, or hold an office of or position in a political party. Special rules apply to political contributions.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the public.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills.
  • Possession or ability to acquire a forklift operator certificate.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment up to 50 lbs., assisted.
  • May require prolonged sitting and standing, use of forklift, and may be subject to dust and extreme heat and cold while working in a warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Programs, tests and prepares election equipment to conduct public logic and accuracy testing of election media devices, ballot marking devices, tabulators and software.
  • Maintains election equipment by troubleshooting, repairing and replacing defective parts or equipment to ensure compliance of voting regulations and safety guidelines. Cleans and stores ballot boxes, voting storage carriers, computers and other equipment; audits and logs voted and unused ballots; orders and maintains parts and supplies.
  • Tests and coordinates the set-up of election equipment, election computer systems, workstations and supplies to meet specification of voting system.
  • Supervises and trains part-time employees.
  • Maintains election equipment inventory and updates election equipment software.
  • Assists on Election Day by serving as the helpdesk representative, responding to problematic calls, instructing election judges and clerks on voting equipment operations, and preparing equipment and supply handouts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
