About The Position

The Electrical Applications Engineer is responsible for design, prototype, installation, and testing of food processing equipment electronic systems in a washdown environment.  Work includes design of PLC/PCB/PC hardware and software, updating custom networking software, troubleshooting electronic systems remotely and in person at customer sites, integrating machine electronics with plant software systems and other machinery, fabrication and assembly of R&D electronics prototypes, creating test systems and running testing on R&D projects, integrating and testing new machinery/technology at customer sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology required - from an ABET accredited Engineering program preferred
  • Knowledge of control panel design including HMI systems, VFD and servo motor systems, remote I/O, pneumatic controls, analog and digital I/O required
  • Experience with power distribution design (DC, Single and Three Phase) required
  • Experience networking devices using Ethernet TCP/IP, Modbus UDP, Ethercat, RS485 required
  • Experience in data acquisition and evaluation using SQL, Azure, and MS PowerBI
  • Experience with process instrumentation sensors and interlocking devices required
  • Demonstrated ability to remotely troubleshoot electronics problems using just a phone and computer
  • Experience programming PC, PLC, and PCB using Structured Text, Ladder Logic, C, and C# required
  • Programming experience using TwinCAT, CODESYS, MS Visual Studio, and MPLab software
  • Must keep a valid US driver’s license
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a passport for international travel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with plant monitoring software such as SCADA or Ignition is a plus
  • Knowledge creating HMI programs and visualizations is a plus
  • Optical sensor/camera and robotic systems experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Always follow UL and CE safety design requirements and safeguard others’ safety
  • Responsible for designing, building and installing electronic systems associated with food processing equipment and networking applications.
  • Build electronic test setups for testing R&D products.
  • Motion and motor control through PLC programming.
  • Interface PLC/HMI/PC to facility network software (SCADA, Ignition, etc)
  • Revise custom networking software files that use a variety of protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus UDP, RS485, Profinet, etc)
  • Ability to code using a variety of programming languages (Structured Text, C, and C++)
  • Creation of data tables and dashboards in cloud based systems (Azure, Power BI)
  • Sensor selection and PLC integration.
  • PLC module selection and integration.
  • HMI design and integration to machine/customer network.
  • Create data tables and provide access to the data for external devices
  • Willingness to field calls from customers outside of normal work hours
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally 20% of the time
  • Consistently achieve job and performance expectations efficiently, effectively, and on-time with little to no supervision or direction
  • Perform all other duties and assist with special projects as assigned
