About The Position

The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and testing a wide range of electrical systems that support both Kendall Howard products and facility operations. This includes work on battery systems, automation controls, UL 508A-certified panels, and high-capacity power distribution units up to 1000 kVA. The role requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, with the ability to apply creative problem-solving skills to real-world challenges. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are safe, reliable, and efficient, while also supporting continuous improvement in product performance and manufacturing processes. Experience with PLC programming is considered beneficial but not required. This position offers the opportunity to contribute across multiple areas of electrical engineering, driving innovation and advancing product capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3- 5 years minimum working with industrial electrical systems, controls, or panel design.
  • Knowledge of UL 508A, UL/CE standards, and NFPA 70/79.
  • Strong troubleshooting and hands-on skills.

Nice To Haves

  • SolidWorks Electrical (or similar CAD/E-CAD software) experience preferred.
  • PLC programming experience (Siemens preferred) is a plus, not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support low-voltage control systems, automation wiring, and industrial electrical layouts.
  • Work in our UL 508A-certified panel shop, designing and overseeing control panel builds.
  • Engineer and integrate power distribution units up to 1000 kV into real-world applications.
  • Develop and improve battery and power systems (LiFePO₄, lithium, DC power distribution, chargers, monitoring).
  • Write and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Test, validate, and troubleshoot electrical systems to make sure they perform in production.
  • Collaborate daily with Mechanical Engineering, Production, and leadership to turn designs into products.
  • Help train and mentor technicians, passing along best practices for wiring, safety, and design.
