About The Position

Come shape the future of American travel by interning with the Brightline West team! We are working to reimagine greener, better, and faster train travel. Brightline West is connecting Las Vegas and Southern California through the nation’s first true high-speed, all-electric passenger rail system. Reaching speeds of more than 186 miles per hour, this 218-mile service will take passengers from Las Vegas to the Greater Los Angeles area in half the typical drive time. We are looking for talented individuals who share our pioneering mindset and have a bright vision for redefining the future of American travel. As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will support our technical and engineering teams in Las Vegas, NV, gaining hands‑on exposure to the design and development of large‑scale transportation infrastructure. This internship is an educational experience designed to help students build foundational engineering skills, understand high‑speed rail systems, and learn how multidisciplinary design teams collaborate under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals. The Summer Engineer Internship offers students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience supporting the design and integration of high‑speed rail infrastructure. Interns will work closely with internal teams and external consultants, developing technical, analytical, and professional communication skills while contributing to real‑world transportation projects.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated interest in rail or transportation, through coursework, student organizations, prior internships, or relevant work experience
  • Ability to work in‑person in the Las Vegas, NV office
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a professional environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Students must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Students are expected to work a full-time schedule throughout the course of our Summer Internship Program and must be available to participate for the entirety of the Summer Internship Program, running June 1st - July 31st.
  • Students are responsible for all arrangements of housing and travel.

Responsibilities

  • Learn Brightline West’s mission, values, organizational structure, and role within the project development process
  • Support the review of engineering and design documents for transportation and rail projects
  • Assist with coordination across multiple design disciplines, including civil, systems, vertical, and third‑party interfaces
  • Develop an understanding of high‑speed rail design principles, standards, and criteria
  • Assist with system integration and interface control activities to support coordinated design outcomes
  • Utilize design review and collaboration tools such as Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and other project platforms
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and presentation materials to communicate technical information clearly
  • Participate in meetings and provide regular status updates to senior technical staff
  • Build professional communication skills, including written correspondence, presentations, and active participation in team discussions
  • Gain exposure to the rail industry landscape and the technologies that support high‑speed rail systems
