WSP is seeking a Full Time Electrical Engineering Intern (Substations)- Summer 2026 work out of our Meridian, ID office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program. This internship is anticipated to take place during the Summer 2026 semester. The program is anticipated to take place from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. The individual start date is flexible. Your Impact Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills. Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering. Work closely with experienced engineers on all aspects of utility substation design. Participate in detailed design tasks for low to extra-high-voltage substations, including: One-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and substation layouts. Learn and adhere to client standards and processes Work independently or within a team to complete complex, challenging designs Perform design calculations using industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, etc.) Assist senior engineers with QA/QC design checks. Support design engineers with physical and protection/control design for electric utility substations. Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering, consulting engineering, the electric utility industry, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited electrical engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
  • Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection
  • Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus.
  • Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered for this position.
  • Familiarity with design, drafting or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial.
