About The Position

BAE Systems, one of the world’s largest defense contractors and a Top Ten Prime Contractor to the Department of War, is hiring an Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Designer in Facility Engineering to help us conceptualize and execute modernization and sustainment of energetic manufacturing processes at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Kingsport, TN facility. This position will report onsite on a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off, which gives employees a great opportunity to experience all that the region has to offer and provides a balanced work and family lifestyle. The Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Designer will be responsible for engineering and technical tasks to support design and construction of projects to increase, modernize, and sustain chemical production capacity at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP) in northeastern Tennessee. The EI&C Designer in this role would be responsible for technical tasks including planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into construction and maintenance, determining the process requirements for conceptual projects while also guiding strategic planning, estimating and project scope decisions as they pertain to how best to integrate into the energetic production facilities at HSAAP. This position requires a high degree of technical competence regarding the broad application of engineering principles to the development of new capabilities and/or solutions to customers’ challenging modernization problems. This position will provide technical oversight during the actual field installation and commissioning of equipment. This function resides in a matrixed organization supporting both facilities planning/strategy as well as production design development support. In this role, you are responsible for coordinating with the Engineering Manager to determine what projects should be prioritized and the scope of each project's technical requirements. This process involves learning and understanding the current modernization/sustainment strategy for the facility and reconciling that knowledge with the plant's current needs and making recommendations for projects that satisfy both the plant's future and current needs. This would involve reviewing current production process steps and developing equipment or technology recommendations that inform an estimate that could be utilized to prepare a project proposal for submission to the United States Government to be considered for funding. This position will need to have the fundamentals of engineering and design with the capacity to learn the job-specific applications of that knowledge in order to make design specification decisions or make recommendations for production processes. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting or similar field and 8+ years relevant experience or a Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years the equivalent amount of education and experience. We may consider candidates with additional experience for a more senior role or with fewer years experience for a more junior role.
  • Experience in electrical design, development, construction, and commissioning
  • Broad engineering experience in electrical design, power systems, and control systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including UFC
  • Working knowledge of design software, such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and Electrical Drawings
  • Ability to read, interpret, and/or write documentation needed to program a complete control system
  • Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project)

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical design, development, construction, and commissioning
  • Experience working on Department of War (DoW) projects
  • Experience in the design and construction of chemical manufacturing facilities
  • Experience with variable speed drives, positioners, actuators, valves, and instrumentation used for chemical or industrial plant production processes
  • Knowledgeable in industrial network architectures, topologies, cybersecurity, servers, software validation, and simulation
  • Experience with multiple control system platforms, including Siemens PCS7, Siemens Simatic Batch, and Allen Bradley ControlLogix/ Compactlogix/ PlantPAx
  • Skills: Electrical design and development Control systems design and development Power systems design and development Instrumentation and control systems Commissioning and testing of electrical systems Safety regulations and quality standards

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems, including control systems, power systems, and instrumentation for chemical manufacturing facilities
  • Create detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, instrument list for commissioning, and Scope of Work (SOW)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, maintenance, and purchasing
  • Analyze and assist in troubleshooting electrical systems, including control systems and instrument systems
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans for electrical systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry codes
