We’re currently seeking a highly motivated Electrical Project Manager – Aviation located in Philadelphia, PA. Overview: CMTS is seeking a Electrical Project Manager – Aviation to support major airport capital improvement programs in the Philadelphia, PA region. This role will provide senior-level electrical leadership across terminal, landside, and airfield projects within active, operational airport environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical electrical expertise, aviation experience, and strong client-facing project management skills. The Electrical Project Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to airport authorities and stakeholders, ensuring electrical systems are planned, executed, and delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with FAA, NEC, NFPA, and airport authority requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10–15 years of electrical project management experience, with significant aviation or mission-critical project exposure.
  • Demonstrated experience working in active airport environments.
  • Strong knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, NEC, NFPA, and airport authority standards.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, consultants, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to perform site walks and inspections in terminal, landside, and airfield environments.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and off-hours as required for outages and operational constraints.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • PMP certification.
  • Owner’s representative or program management experience.
  • Experience at medium- or large-hub commercial service airports.
  • Familiarity with Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) or comparable facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead electrical scopes for aviation capital improvement programs, including terminal renovations, expansions, and airfield infrastructure.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects in active, occupied airport environments.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support change management, including scope review, cost analysis, and negotiation.
  • Aviation Electrical Technical Oversight
  • Provide subject-matter expertise for aviation electrical systems, including:
  • Airfield lighting systems (ALS, HIRL, MIRL, REILs, PAPI)
  • FAA-regulated power and control systems
  • Electrical vaults, regulators, and constant current systems
  • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution
  • Emergency power, generators, UPS, and life-safety systems
  • Baggage handling system (BHS) power and controls
  • Security, access control, CCTV, and low-voltage systems
  • Review design documents, RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings for compliance and constructability.
  • Construction & Field Coordination
  • Coordinate closely with airport operations, maintenance, safety, and security teams.
  • Manage electrical contractors, inspectors, testing agencies, and commissioning agents.
  • Support night work, shutdowns, and phased cutovers to maintain airport operations.
  • Lead system testing, commissioning, acceptance, and turnover activities.
  • Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with FAA Advisory Circulars, NEC, NFPA, TSA requirements, local AHJs, and airport standards.
  • Coordinate with utilities, FAA representatives, airport authorities, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Maintain strict adherence to airfield safety protocols and badging requirements.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the primary electrical point of contact for airport authorities, airlines, tenants, and consultants.
  • Lead technical coordination meetings and executive-level briefings.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise reports on electrical scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor Assistant Project Managers, inspectors, and junior staff.
  • Support staffing plans, workload forecasting, and professional development.
  • Promote CMTS best practices, safety culture, and continuous improvement.
